A few questions regarding Pro leagues. It says that they are "coming soon", will they be available this year? If they are, and I renew my league from last year before they become available, will I be able to change my league to a Pro league? I live in the US, but a few people in my league are in the UK, will that affect the logistics of making my league a Pro league?
Thanks

Neil,
Thanks for your post about Yahoo! Fantasy Football Pro leagues. I want to help clarify how Pro leagues work and answer your questions:
I'm sorry about the vague information of "Coming Soon'. We do not yet have an exact date as to when our Pro leagues will be open for registration, but we do anticipate that registration will be open ASAP.
Private leagues such as yours cannot be made into a Pro league. Pro leagues are essentially considered a public league, where random managers play against each other. You will not be able to invite managers to a Pro league.
Ok, here comes some lawyer talk:
The Contest is void where prohibited. To be eligible for a prize in the Contest, you must be at least 18 years of age and a legal resident of the District of Columbia or the fifty United States, except for residents of Arizona, Illinois, Iowa, Louisiana, Maryland, Montana, Vermont, and Washington, where the Contest is void.
In addition, the following groups of persons are not eligible to win prizes in the Contest: employees and agents of Yahoo! Inc., its affiliates, subsidiaries, advertising and promotional agencies, any other prize sponsor, and any entity involved in the development, production, implementation, administration or fulfillment of the Contest (all the foregoing, together with Sponsor, collectively referred to as "Contest Entities"), and the immediate family members and persons living in the same household as any of the above.
I hopes this helps. If you have any more questions, please feel free to respond to this post.

Hello Mike,
I have a question about the way the prizes work. Are prizes in cash or are they physical items from yahoo?
Thanks,
Drew

Hey Drew,
Great question. Let me answer that for you.
Our Pro Leagues offer cash prizes for the top three finishers.
If you enter a $20 Pro League, you can win as much as $100.
If you enter a $100 Pro League, you can win as much as $500!
Please continue to fire away with the questions regarding this new feature. I know a lot of you are excited about the introduction of Pro Leagues.

I'm from Illinois. Why can't I join these leagues? I've tried to pay for a Pro100 and can't. I guess I'll have to give my money to CBS again. Not Fair!

Im just curious as to why the payouts aren't higher? If you have 12 managers each paying $20 to enter the league then that is $240 total. So, if the winner only receives $100 and 2nd place receives $50 and 3rd place gets their $20 back, then that will total $170 in payouts. Which would leave $70 to yahoo for its services, which seems like a bit much to me.
Moreover, if 12 managers each pay $100 to join then that would total $1200. The winner receives $500, 2nd place receives $250 (dont actually know) and 3rd place gets their $100 back then that would total $850 of payouts. That would leave $350 to yahoo for its services which seems like an even more outrageous number. Yahoo has hundreds, maybe thousands, of these pro leagues, and I'm sure they are making a killing off of them.
I just think the payouts should be a little higher because sooner or later people will start complaining about how shortchanged they feel when they do the math.
IMO it should be for $20 buy-in: 1st-$125 2nd-$50 3rd-$20 Leaves $45 to yahoo
$100 buy-in: 1st-$650 2nd-$250 3rd-$100 Leaves $200 to yahoo

It may seem excessive, but it is generous compared to CBS, the worst fantasy site ever. At CBS they charge you 40 to enter a 12 man league, and the ONLY winner is the 1st place team, who gets 200 bucks. Do the math. CBS takes 480 dollars and returns 200 to one person. They keep 280. Not exaggerating.
