What Are Verizon Yahoo! Mail’s Social Features?

Verizon Yahoo! Mail includes many features that provide special access to people you care about most. These are Mail’s social features. Most of these features are available right on the Verizon Yahoo! Mail home page.

  • Change and share your status message.

  • New incoming email messages from your contacts appear right on your Mail home page. You can also filter the messages in your Inbox or any other folder to see just those from your contacts or from your connections. See Seeing Emails From People You Know for more information.

  • Verizon Yahoo! Mail makes it easy to add new connections—see Adding Connections From Mail for the details

  • Updates from your connections and other people you know also display right on the Mail home page. Viewing Others’ Updates tells you more about this feature.

Note: If you don’t see connection and update information, you probably have these social features turned off. Click here to learn how to turn them on again.

 

Here’s How

To change and share your status message:

  1. Click in the box with the status message prompt to the right of your public photo.

    Click in the status message box.

    Tip: If you’ve already defined a status message in your profile on Yahoo!, you’ll see it below the status box.

  2. Enter your message (up to 255 characters).

  3. By default, your status is shared with everyone who can see your Profile on Yahoo!. If you don’t want to share your status updates with the Yahoo! network, remove the check from the box labeled with a purple Y!.

    You can control whether your status is shared with the Yahoo! network.

  4. Click the Share button

    Enter your status, then click the Share button.

    Your new status message appears on the Mail What’s New page; it also changes on your profile page and anywhere else in Yahoo! where your status displays.

    If you’re sharing your status, your connections also get an update about your new message.

  5. If you want to get rid of your current status message without entering a new one, click the clear link.

    Click the clear link to delete your status message.

Words to Know

  • Connection: a person you spend significant time online with and with whom you want to share personal information. Connections have privileged access to each others’ profiles.
  • Contact: a person with whom you interact; someone to whom you might want to send an email, instant message, or text message.
  • Folder: a container that holds individual elements specific to the context; for example, email messages in Verizon Yahoo! Mail or bookmarks in the Bookmarks Sidebar module.
  • Inbox: a folder where you receive incoming email.
  • Profile: a public web page associated with your Verizon Yahoo! Username or Yahoo! ID where you can share personal information with others. You and each of your connections have a profile that others can view.
  • Status message: a personal message that appears on your profile card, your mail home page, and other places throughout the Yahoo! network; you can change it whenever you want.
  • Verizon Yahoo! Updates: mini-stories about online activities that you can share with your friends and family.
